Time Budget - Family Life [Productivity @ Home]
On Tuesdays, I share my thoughts on Family Life.
Work on my “Time Budget” continues today with an eye towards the Family Life area of my personal productivity quest.
For this part of the budget, I’ve listed each family member in my life, including my parents, siblings, nephews and Mother in law along with my spouse and sons.
For my three men, I’ve documented each responsibility and time commitment I have to support them in their life including everything from the mundane “make school lunch” to the very important “spend quiet time with Greg (my spouse)”. It may seem sad to think I need to put something like making time to be with my spouse, but I know that this is a priority time in my life and I want to keep things in their proper perspective.
The cursed areas of housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping and cooking fall into the Family Life section of the time budget. Along with noting my family member responsibilities, I’ve listed the various areas of our house that need tending and assigned each of them to a particular day. I’ve been a recipient of the infamous “Fly Lady” emails in the past and her “zone” system always appealed to me - breaking detestable tasks into smaller portions somehow makes them more palatable to me.
In the Time Budget, I’ve also allotted time to keep in better touch with my siblings and nephews and to include my mother-in-law in our family life more regularly.
What would be notable in the Family Life section of your Time Budget? Have I missed something or do you have any suggestions?
