Separating ideas and tasks with Todoist [Hack Your Day]

Taggin ideasI’ve been talking a lot about ideas lately, but it so happens that something comes to mind while gathering ideas which I actually want to do definitely, and not just any time in the future. I came a up with a solution that lets me type continuously in Todoist, but it can be applied for any task manager with tag or labeling capability.

I actually have one single list in Todoist called “ideas”. I use Todoist for ideas because I love the very clean, uncluttered interface, it helps me think better. Anyway, while taking down some ideas I ran into some tasks as well. Instead of creating a new list for these which would have just taken more time, I labeled them with “@task”. This way I can track ideas which are immediate tasks by simply listing the ones labeled with task.

Todoist lets you do this easily because if you type “Add Hack Your Day Contact info @task” your task will be assigned the label without you having to apply it somewhere else. This means that you took only about a 1 second detour and you don’t have more lists, but you have an added layer of context.
