Sick Kid Puts “Productivity” in Perspective [Productivity @ Home]
On Tuesdays, I share my thoughts on Family Life.
Today’s "to do" list is a whopper - I just returned from two back to back trips and have yet to unpack my suitcases. Along with the normal unpacking, dealing with a slew of laundry, and the onslaught of emails, I need to follow up on several important items from the conference I just attended. It’s one of those days where I’d like to lock myself in my home office for twelve hours and order in pizza for dinner.
But today is also a reminder of why I chose to work from home: I have a sick teenager upstairs in my bed. Adam spiked a fever over the weekend and it seems to have worsened during the past 24 hours. He seems to have a lingering flu bug or a virus of some sort. He is upstairs, willing himself to get better in time for this weekend’s Academic Decathlon competition.
A sick teenager doesn’t require nearly the attention that an ill infant does - he is content to nestle under Mom’s comforter and rest quietly. Adam needs medication, hydration, and periodic checking - but most of all he needs to know that today, he is Mom’s number one priority.
