Alltop = simple + effective [experiments in effectiveness]

As an alternative to finding the best blogs and news sources yourself, let Alltop do it for you. What they do is present the top five stories, posts and articles from thirty or more sources on a single page, that updates every ten minutes. Currently they serve up twenty four different categories, with more on the way.

Alltop describes itself as a “…“dashboard,” “table of contents,” or even a “digital magazine rack” of the Internet.” It is so simple and so effective. Picture the power of letting your eyes run over about one hundred and fifty headlines in a few seconds, picking out what grabs your attention.

I do not think this is  replacement for your well curated collection of RSS feeds…yet. It is very easy on the eyes and gives you one stop to instantly find the top sources in several categories. You could use Alltop to jump start your learning on a new topic, get a fresh perspective on a topic you already know, or easily refer someone to a wealth of information that is ready for consumption, rather than telling them, “Google it.”

Alltop was created by Nononina, a Guy Kawasaki company, who created Truemors. Read a quick interview with Guy over at Web Worker Daily.

I think Edward Tufte would love this site for its simple design and high information density. Give it a try and see if it works for you.
