Student Tool: Citastic [Gearfire Productivity]

Citastic is a simple “MLA citation and bibliography creator.”

You start by picking the appropriate source in the left sidebar.

Pick Your Source

Citastic provides a form to fill in the information of your source.

Input your source's info

After inputting your sources, you can choose to save the list (if you’ve created a free account), email it, or create a bibliography. If you choose the latter, Citastic creates a .rtf file with everything properly formatted. It’s ready to print, except for the title. From my experience, “Works cited” seems to have replaced “bibliography”.

Output options

I used Citastic to create my works cited list on a recent essay. Overall, it performs admirably. One hiccup was that it didn’t have the ability to cite government sources. They are currently rewriting the code to incorporate user suggestions and make improvements.

While it’s tempting to simply use Citastic’s output, always be sure to check with your professors regarding their specific preferences for formatting.
