Productivity-Blogger Interview: Andrew Flusche [HD BizBlog 1.2]

Andrew Flusche writes about his productivity practice and the dawn of his career as a lawyer at LegalAndrew.com:
I started this blog as a place to share some of thoughts and ideas with other like minded people. My intent is to post a few tips a week pertaining to law school, internships, and legal careers. I do not claim to be a prophet in any of these areas, but I hope that people will find a kernel of insight here and there (or maybe they will all be “old maidsâ€).
Obviously, this blog will evolve as I transition from my third year of law school into my legal career. Thus, my “tips†might not be pertinent to the different stages of life of all the readers, but hopefully everyone can find something useful.
I e-mailed a list of questions to Andrew, and here are the answers:
Where did you grow up?
Decatur, Texas. I lived in the same house from birth until I went to college.
What kind of work experience have you had to get to where you are?
I started working for my parent’s auto parts store when I was able to push a broom. When I turned 16, I started a great job at Taco Bell. Really, you can learn a lot in the fast food business. I put myself through college doing internet programming for a Texas-based company that imports anime. Now I work for American Life League as their legal researcher.
Where have you studied?
I have a B.A. in Politics from the University of Dallas. And I have a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
How do your interests affect your life and work?
I guess my main interest is marketing. I’ve really started reading more and more about it, and sometimes I just can’t get enough!
Do you have any hobbies?
Blogging (of course!). I’ve also been into woodworking for a while. My wife is gracious enough to put up with my tools and mess. I really got into road cycling this year, and I hope to race next summer.
What was the last book that you read?
Fiction:
The Chamber - John Grisham
Non-fiction:
Brazen Careerist: The New Rules for Success - Penelope Trunk
What is your most important accomplishment?
Staying married for three years. I was going to write “getting married,” but it’s fairly easy to do that. Staying together is the part that takes work.
What is your next big goal?
Argue a court case. I’ll be a licensed attorney any day now, so getting into a courtroom is the next step.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Still here in Virginia, working for American Life League. Maybe I’ll be heading up a team of lawyers and legal researchers!
Who/what was your inspiration to start blogging?
Honestly, I can’t remember. I wanted to share some tips and lifehacks with people. I guess ProBlogger and Lifehacker were two big influences back then.
As an update, Andrew has recently passed the Virginia State Bar Exam and thus is one step closer to becoming a lawyer. Congratulations Andrew!
