The New Zen Habits Forums! And the July Challenge [zen habits]

As I mentioned, I plan to roll out a number of new features on this site, from a new high-traffic server (for less crashes) to a complete redesign to a number of resources for you, the readers.

The first of these features is here: the Zen Habits Forums.

I created the forums as a way to do the July Challenge (more on that in a sec) without me having to compile and send out a daily email. It was a way for me to simplify my life a little while actually providing a better service to the Challenge members.

However, I decided it could be a good way for all the readers here to talk about their goals, their life changes, their finances and productivity and organization, their family and happiness and simplifying … basically, all the stuff discussed on this site. I hope for it to be a tool for discussion and positive life changes, motivation and encouragement.

And while the posting of resources that are helpful to others is welcome, spamming the forum with your blog posts is not. Those will be deleted and you will eventually be banned.

Speaking of which, I would eventually like to have a few moderators to keep things civil and relatively spam-free, so once you’re established on the forums, if you decide you want to be a moderator, let me know.

As of this writing, the forums are brand new. There are no users on there but me, and there are no posts but mine. So you can be the first! You’ll need to register, but it’s pretty simple, and you can get the discussions going. Jump in!

p.s. the link to the forums is at the top of the site at all times, for easy access.

The July Challenge
It’s that time of month again — time to set a goal for the month of July and join the Zen Habits challenge to help keep yourself accountable and motivate yourself to change one habit.

This will be the fifth Challenge we’ve had — we started it in March, and have had successful challenges in April, May and now June. The June Challengers (more than 190 signed up) were awesome, and a good core group made it all the way through with a new, life-changing habit.

If you’d like to join the July Challenge, first, set a goal for yourself. Pick ONE habit to change, and make sure that it’s an easy one. Don’t take on too much, or you will likely fail. You want to make this a successful month — you can get ambitious later.

Next, go to the new Zen Habits Forums and register. I’ve already created a special forum for the July Challenge, and there’s a sign-up thread all ready to go. Sign up there with your name, your goal, and any comments you might have.

Each day someone (me or anyone who’s in the Challenge) will start the daily check-in thread, and we will all report our progress. If you can’t check in daily, that’s OK, but it’s important to check in as often as possible. You want to keep yourself accountable and motivated.

My challenge for July: get back into my daily exercise habit. I did this before, but fell out of it because of a back injury. I’m motivated this month!
